SD Late Night Dining - La Costa Brava

Got stuck waiting on a friend to fly in last night, Palmdale radar station went down, no in/outbound traffic for SoCal. Anyways, it 10:15, had a couple places in Point Loma in mind, but they were closed. Friend mentions Nick's in PB, OK in a pinch (21.95 for bad gumbo, grrr) although a happy hour Papas Quesadilla, and the grilled fish are not bad. Long story, short we ended up at La Costa Brava, for Tapas. Pitcher of Sangria, a bottle of Rioja and some nice cold Tapas, great way to beat the heat. Here is a run down of our meal.

Anchoas con pimientos $7.50
Spanish anchovies & Piquillo peppers

....Roasted peppers, good quality anchovies, nice olive oil for dipping. Salty goodness.

Queso Cabrales $7.95
Spanish blue cheese from Asturias

......Nice thick smear of wonderfully creamy cheese on toasted bread (4), topped with a black olive.

Pulpo a la vinagreta $8.50
Marinated octopus

.....Vinaigrette needed a little more punch, but the octopus was tender and perfect.

Aceitunas Aliñadas $3.50
Marinated olives

.....Had better olives here before, the last 2 visits we were served pitted olives that lacked flavor, forgot to ask why the change, still good though.

A nice basket of bread and a garlic aioli is also provided. Bill came out to about $80 with a generous tip. Other good stuff I’ve had in the past.

Patatas a la Brava $4.75
Spicy potatoes

Caracoles al Alioli $8.50
Escargot in a parsley Alioli sauce

Gambas al Ajillo $8.95
Shrimp in garlic

With all this heat. I’ve been eating later and later. There was a late night dining post a while ago, but hopefully this post can resurrect the topic.

Cheers
