help! I'm screwing up my husband's birthday

I waited too long to make res. at Le Bernardin for this Thursday--silly me for waiting for HIM to decide on a play to figure out what time to make the res for.... today he decided PRE-theater is the way to go, and (at least according to Open Table), Le Bernardin has no early reservations left. I was on hold for an hour tonight trying to confirm w/ the restaurant itself, but no one ever picked up.

So: ideas/suggestions? He's an extremely critical foodie, wants "seafood" (well, wants *Le Bernardin*) doesn't seem to excited about Esca or db Bistro moderne or Aquavit (all of which have res. available on O.T.). It needs to be "wow" and high-end and either early or late. I'd love to stick near the $200-$250-ish range total for two, maybe including glass of wine or drink apiece?

One backup plan is early at Del Posto's bar--I think you can make same-day reservations there. Anyone know the success rate of that?
