My first stop on hitting town was Scout Coffee Co. Open for two years, the husband-and-wife founders are alums of Santa Cruz's Verve.

My full-caff macchiato was a quick pick-me-up, served with a sparkling water chaser enjoyed in a sun-lit cafe. It was a little hollow in the middle with a faintly bitter aftertaste. The beans are roasted by HoneyCo Coffee Roasters http://honeycocoffee.com/ in SLO which is under common ownership.

I admired the breakfast pastries in the case and learned that most are house-baked. I made a note to return in the morning, but sadly did not manage to squeeze it in. Another reason to come back to SLO.
