go to patak's grocery in drummond street (next to euston station). at the back of the store are ready made dishes; the brands are names like ashoka, mtr, kohinoor ... the dishes, inside the packaging, are in silvered plastic bags which you boil for a few minutes to produce almost home like quality food .. certainly miles beyond anything available in restaurants. buy a small bag of basmati rice, buy some pickles (garlic, mango, lemon), buy some elephant atta chappatis. you'll be hard pressed to spend 20 pounds ... go home and enjoy. by the way, look for maharastrian usal, look for mutter paneer (ashoka brand), look for bombay pav bhaji. NOW you are getting the flavours of the sub-continent ...
