Scorched Calphalon teakettle

EWSflash | Sep 8, 201507:04 PM

I could swear I posted this before but wasn't able to find it. somebody boiled my Calphalon (original, not nonstick, it's 20 years old or so) teakettle dry and there's a lot of scorching around the bottom on the outside, plus burned-on grease. my guys aren't appreciative of it obviously. I've tried everything including oven cleaner, which worked marginally, but don't wish to repeat it if I don't have to, and Ajax, same result.
Is there a miracle out there? I'd also like to get the hard water residue out of the inside, but I figure I can do that over the course of a week with citric acid and water.
