Scones on the line

I've long been a devotee of the scones at Panini, at the corner of Kirkland/Washington and Hampshire/Beacon on the Somerville side of the street. Blueberry cornmeal and cherry ginger are especially good, and the standards (blueberry, raspberry, raisin, lemon) are all excellent. Good muffins, too.

But my morning commute continues up Beacon, and this week I finally thought to stop at Petsi Pies, which took over the Montparnasse space in between Zoe's and Shaw's, and see what they had for breakfast. Twice.

Wow. Fig vanilla scone: remarkable. Honey cornmeal scone: sounds a little dry and dull, but it was crusty on the outside and almost creamy within. Mocha chip muffin: heady, I couldn't even finish it (at least not right after a scone). And my fiancee went by in between my visits and discovered sticky buns whose qualities she's now taunting me with.

Haven't had one of their pies yet, but I'm won over already.
