Ive been lamenting the demise of Hot Shoppes for the past several years and found myself wondering aloud a couple of weeks ago what old school cafeterias might remain in the area. I know theres Saints Paradise, but what else has yet to be shuttered? I do love some of the government affiliated cafeterias, but Im looking for non-government and non-museum oriented options. Church options are totally cool with me, so long as the general public is allowed to partake.
Along those lines, I did read that someone once recommended the cafeteria at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Has anyone been there? If so, whats good and does it merit a schlep? Does it have that old school cafeteria ambiance? Or is it more like some of the unremarkable museum cafeterias that simply process crowds of tourists?
