Stopped by cafe cacao after lunch elsewhere to pick up something sweet to go. After a slightly defensive explanation that the 'brownie' I requested was actually a 'chocolate pave, in fact the opposite of a brownie as it has no flour and therefore doesn't rise' (OK, as a pastry chef I realize that this is probably what the retail staff is told because the p.c. gets sick of everyone calling them brownies, but it's also crap), $6.50 was requested of me.

Is this for real, or was the counter guy confused? We're talking about a square of flourless chocolate cake, half an inch high and probably three and a half inches square, sitting on a plate in the pastry case along with various cookies. I did not purchase the pastry in question, so I am not able to report whether it included gold or perhaps precious gems that might command $6.50.
