Per my earlier question, had dinner with wife and friends at SBC Cafe in Herndon on Saturday. Overall: very pleasant, food was excellent, I'd definitely recommend it.
Let's see what I remember. Apps: cold cucumber soup, a seafood gumbo, seared scallops, and a red and yellow pepper soup. Entrees: Nice bottle of Italian white, three bottles of sparkling water, Tortilla crusted grouper served with zucchini; chili crusted grouper on coconut grits (2 of us had this); grilled rockfish and i can't remember the side. Dessert: mango ice cream, pot de creme. Each of us was very happy with everything we ate - not a clunker on the table. Tab for this little feast was $160 including tip - we thought given the amount and quality of food, an outstanding bargain. Service was friendly, not special, but certainly not a problem for a place like this.
This was our first trip to the cafe. had read in the past about how "casual" it was, with boxes stacked up everywhere, glass coolers out for soft drinks, etc. Well, it may have been that way in the past but they've spruced up a bit. Still totally casual and unpretentious, but no piles of stuff around to make you think that the cafe was just an afterthought to the catering business. Tablecloths etc. But yes, kinda cheap plastic chairs.
If I worked in the area I would definitely sample the lunch options.
