Sazon, Another Perspective

WEll, this is the first time Chowhound raves have left me wondering.

Four of us went for dinner around 6pm tonight. I ordered an appetizer sampler for $7, and found all of the appetizers bland and similar tasting, even though one was cheese filled, one had chicken, one bean and the other beef. No particular flavor to any. Somewhat bland sauce.

I know I made a mistake to have ordered another appetizer for a main course--a much larger corn-filled pastry with meat inside. Again: boring.

Tres leche chocolate cake for dessert was O. K., but not outstanding in any way. Great fresh lemonade. Pleasant service, but kinda laid back.

Our friends had different chicken dishes, accompanied by nice salads/ yucca and avocado. They were polite, and not unhappy, but again, no special "zing" to their dishes either.

My husband did love his bean soup, but that was the only dish that got raves.

Did we miss something, or was it an off night for the regular chef?
