Got a bottle of very high quality argan oil from a long-time chowhound friend -- very smooth and richly nutty with lots of almond flavour.
Given the almond flavour, I tried it as a topping for vanilla ice cream. The aroma and flavour of the oil added a luxuriant nutty finish to the ice cream. Haven't tried other flavours of ice cream yet -- imagine that it would work with other flavours that are complemented by almonds or other nuts.
To stretch the imagination further (maybe not stretching by much, considering how broad experiences and knowledge the chowhound collective has), has anyone tried other oils as an ice cream topping? e.g. sesame oil over sesame ice cream or olive oils (wonder how that would taste with a basil ice cream) or various nut oils?
