This Saturday (in Manhattan): Jim Leff Invites You To a Stupendous Potato Chip & Cola Tasting at Tekserve

The Chowhound Team | Jul 7, 2005 01:13 AM

Come by Tekserve (119 W. 23rd b/w 6th & 7th) this Saturday, July 9th at 2pm for a free tasting of some amazing and totally obscure potato chips and cola, courtesy of Tekserve and

Jim Leff will be on hand to lead the tasting, answer all your chow-related questions, and sign copies of "The Chowhound's Guide to the New York Tristate Area", just published by Penguin, and available at Tekserve for just $15. As an added bonus, Tekserve (the cool Apple computer and computer repair shop featured on Sex in the City) will also be raffling off three 1GB iPod shuffles to attendees. Only 200 will be admitted (on a first come, first serve basis) so don't be late!

We'll be tasting the astounding original Maui chips (not one of the many imitators - we mean the real deal: the outstanding and extremely elusive Maui Kitch'n Cook'd Potato Chips). We'll be tasting chips from La Palma Mexicatessen, perhaps the best in the continental US. We'll be tasting Rusty's Chips, hand sliced and fried by a chip fanatic from Balboa Island, CA. We'll be tasting special chips from England. We'll be tasting the best Lancaster County lardy chips. We'll be tasting a cola you've never heard of that will delight and enthrall you, we'll be tasting Dutch coke (made with cane sugar!), we'll be tasting Red Rock Cola (a few years older than Coca Cola, and, unlike the latter, still made per the same formula). And much, much, much more.

IMPORTANT: if you want to discuss brands of chips and/or cola (and who doesn't??), please do so to our General Topics message board so we can keep this message board Manhattancentric.
