Walking down North today I came across Santullo's Pizza, which advertizes itself as NY style pizza by the slice place. So, of course, I had to try it.
My thoughts:As easy as it would be to mimic the Comic Book Store guy on The Simpons and declare it "Worst-Pizza-Ever," I will try to give it a more in-depth review. The cheese had pretty much no flavor. And there was too much of it. The sauce was pretty much non-existent. I'm not exaggerating here either. There was basically no sauce at all. Cheese and a hint of oregano. As to the crust, well, it had no real taste except that it didn't appear to be completely done. But it wasn't soft and chewey, like not-completely-done pizza crust can be. It was very rubbery. The slice was re-heated when I ordered it but the crust was still very rubbery and soft and just altogether bad. Overall, it was just bad. Bad in a boring way, though. After eating, it was about 10 minutes before I had a drink. By that time, there was no flavor left in my mouth. So it wasn't exactly disgusting.
Oh yeah, it's also $3.25 for a slice (normal size by slice-standards).
To those who might want a point of reference, I think Cafe Luigi's is probably the best NY style pizza around. I also like Gigio's in Uptown. Please do not attack me as I haven't done the Taylor Street or Harlem Ave tour yet.
