Lovergirl and I stopped in Santarpio's yesterday afternoon. It has been on her list to try for a while. I had actually given up on the pizza my last few visits and had just stuck to the bbq'd sausage and lamb skewers. Ordered lamb and sausage skewers and they were awesome as usual. I love to attach a little bit of cherry pepper to every bite of lamb. There was a sufficient amount of lamb and pickled pepper juice on the plate to mop up with the bread. Quite tasty.
We also ordered a garlic and sausage pizza, crispy. We had about 2 bites of bbq left when the waitress came and dropped the pizza off. As soon as it hit the table and I took one look at it I could sense something good was coming. Amazing aroma, perfect coloring, just a little sheen of grease, perfect amount of topping. The first bite revealed an absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked pizza. The kind I had enjoyed over the years and lately had not been lucky enough to get. Deep dark tomato sauce, good cheese coverage(but not excessive), sufficient sausage and plenty of garlic. Pizza Heaven!
I asked who made the pizza, stating to the server that it was the best one I had in years. The response, "Richie, sometimes he's on and sometimes he isn't" Well Richie was on yesterday and we certainly benefitted from it. Advice: It is best to go when it isn't busy. We were there on a Monday afternoon around 3pm, only a couple of tables being used and just a few bar patrons.
It's pizza like that one that makes me go back. Kind of like that one perfect golf shot during a crappy round. Their pizza might be as inconsistent as my golf game, but I am gonna go back for another round. I'm just going to remember to play when the course is empty.
