Thanks to help from Finiero, we had a great visit. After driving for a day, we went for an easy dinner to the Shed. Dependable, good. Got an off-the-menu margarita called Smoke & Fire which had mezcal and jalapeño infusion. Delish but strong. Two may have been one too many. Next afternoon hit Coyote Cafe upstairs on the roof for a Navajo taco and Duck Quesadilla. I love sitting at the edge overlooking the street. Afternoon was tub & massage at Ten Thousand Waves so we had dinner at Izanami out there. Was just as good as the last time. The foie gras burger with caramelized onions is incredible. Also great was avocado sashimi, japanese sweet potatoes (get as last dish cuz it's sweet and can sub for dessert), the gyoza and pork belly. Mushrooms were good but not necessarily a repeat. Only complaint was that everything was coming out way too fast. No pacing from the server. When we said it was too fast she said that's just how it's done and was miffed when we asked for the meal to slow down just a bit and to redo the gyoza. Have been here a few times and this time was the only problem. Lunch the next day on Canyon Road at El Farol. Chorizo and fig dish was outstanding. Gambas good. Patatas Bravas good. Wonderful afternoon with Rosé. The last night was at State Capital Kitchen. Wow. Mark Connell's new restaurant was great. We didn't have any of the dim sum as apparently the dim sum guy was pulled into the kitchen for prep--so none of finiero's confusion! The paparadelle with rabbit confit was so good. The duck liver toast was good. Also had the wagyu strip loin with a short rib cannelloni and a pork confit dish. Mark still has signature desserts of the chocolate globe and also the exploding passionfruit balls (had 2 orders of these). The service was great. The meal was great. We had a fantastic time.
