Santa Barbara - Annual Greek Festival - late July/early August

glbtrtr | Jul 31, 201608:59 PM

43rd Annual Greek Festival has now come and gone, good as ever. All volunteer effort run by the members of the local Greek Orthodox Church with all the traditional Greek specialties that seem to get better each year.

The gyro lines move quickly and the classic tastes wrapped in a pita soft and good enough to hold up through the last bites. There is also a separate chicken gyro stand. Then the large BBQ tent that offers grilled lamb, chicken, pork souvlaki, moussaka, salad, dolmathas, along with other sides and sauces.

A separate mezze booth offers stuffed phyllo spinach or cheese pastries, dolmas, Greek pizza, calamari and "feta fries". Greek beer, wine, coffee without or without metaxa and sodas.

Any of this gets eagerly topped off by visit to the homemade dessert table featuring our own favorites - baklava and the powder-sugar dusted and crisp Koulourakia. Also available are: Kourabiedes, Melomacrona, Walnut Cake, Yogurt Cake, and Kataifi,. Pre-packaged gift packs also available to take home.

Music, dancing and outdoor tables, raffle for trip to Greece - some shade. In Oak Park which is located near Cottage Hospital - bus service available from downtown locations. Put it on your calendar either late July or first weekend in August -but always the weekend before Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days Fiesta - another snacking fest.
