We have been huge fans of SanSei Kapalua ever since it opened, but didn't make it over to that side of the island this time. Decided to try Kihei in spite of abysmal reviews. Sadly, the reviews were correct. Did our usual seating at the bar to get input from other customers & the bartenders. These poor guys were kind, but clueless. Looked like a sports bar to begin with - a bad omen.
Tried to order my favorites, but nothing tasted the same or nearly as I remembered. The big eye ahi in panko was sorely overcooked & almost too crunchy to break thru - it's beurre blanc sauce had no taste & none of those delicious black sesame seeds floating in it. The ahi salad was boring & I question the freshness of it (maybe that's whay the big eye was over-cooked...)
About the only happy camper was out 11 year old with a very teryiakied chicken stick & big bowl of ramen.
So, same review we gave the Honolulu branch - what a dissapointment.
