San Marco report

Went to San Marco in Adams Morgan Friday night and it was good, esp. for the price. we had a table of 9, and while service wasn't spectacular everything was fine. We were basically the loud, rowdy table in the back, that everyone hates ;)

Most on the apps run $5-$7 and most main menu items are below $10. Specials run $10-$15.

Bread basket was filled with Italian bread (good) and very doughy foccacia (not very good) and each table has a jug of olive oil.

I had the calamari salad, generous helping of calamari rings, with a scattering of salad mix, olive oil and lemon. Could have used a little more lemon to set off the flavor.

Then had Penne pasta with Italian sausage and tomatoes, which was good, a nice subtle heat to the sausage.

also tried the mushroom and saffron/shrimp risottos, both were heaping portions and tasty. Also the pork sausage plate with tomatoes and grilled polenta cake, also good.

If you are looking for solid, inexpensive Italian before going out in Adams Morgan, then San Marco is the place to go.

dinner for 9 with 3 apps, 9 main, and a couple drinks each came to $200 with tax and tip.
