Philadelphia ChowHounds heading for 1st trip to the Bay area Sept 19-22. Been lurking through the board looking at various places. We are very open foodwise. Would rather not "dress up" (i.e. suit/tie) but not so concerned about price. Looking for places for Lunch / Dinner / Drinking establishments etc. Particularly interested in Italian and French bistro type food. Still deciding on hotel so I can't share exact area for homebase, but leaning toward Hotel Monaco (Kearney St.) which we have enjoyed in other cities. Any must do's / eat's / advice on places to stay. Would like to stay in San Francisco proper as our time is limited. Will be in Mountain View on Friday and coming into town on Saturday morning. We can keep the rental car or return it and use cabs, cable cars etc. What do you suggest? Thanks in advance for your help!!
