Staying at the Loews Coronado with kids for three days. Would like recommendations for all meals. Also, where is the best place in the area to catch college football? Thanks!
In an earlier thread on Oceanside this poster said that his/her family was from Texas. Given the user name, probably the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
San Diego isn't that much of a sports town - this isn't SEC/Big 12 country where people are worshiping football. If you are interested in following your favorite team, DFWBuff, it probably would be useful to find which bar your alumni club does for games. Otherwise, you have your usual Hooters/Tilted Kilt choices.
Restaurant-wise, I don't have a lot of suggestions (it has been over a year since I've been in Coronado), but at Loews you aren't all that far from the El Pescador taco truck that permanently parks at the Toys-R-Us in Chula Vista.
Sunday brunch at the Crown Room in Hotel Del Coronado.
OT: You should watch the Stuntman starring Peter O'Toole (1980), filmed mostly at the Hotel Del Coronado ( but also La Jolla, and other locales). It is free on YouTube. Not for kids.
Hi DFWBuff, I'll go out on a limb and assume your from Dallas.
As far as college football games, there are several local watering holes that have college football on the TV's. Pacific Beach, beginning on Garnet St and then Mission Blvd, or Ocean Beach, will probably fit the bill for you. HOWEVER, that will depend on the age of your kids. Most bars restrict entry to over 21. I recommend to call ahead and not get disappointed. Most places will be jammed on game day, NFL as well!
As for meals, it would help to identify what type of chow might interest your family.
