San Diego, short trip, no car

D-NY | Mar 26, 2004 08:45 AM

We are flying into SD tonight, staying Saturday and Sunday, and flying out on the red-eye Sunday night. Very short trip, it was kind of a lark, so we decided to save money by not renting a car. Our hotel is on Harbor Drive which, I realize, is a horrible place to be without a car (my mistake), but they'll prob. be able to shuttle us downtown. So:
1- we will likely spend one day in the gaslamp area and thereabouts, maybe going to the beaches (there is some beach nearby, right? I know it wont be warm enough to swim). Any eating suggestions in that area?
2- the other day will likely be at the zoo and Balboa park if there is time. Any suggestions in that area? WE also need to get dinner Sunday night so if there is something on the trolley between the zoo and downtown that would be fine too.

I'm coming from NYC so I'm particularly interested in Mexican suggestions. And, given our budget and clothing, we would prefer informal, inexpensive places.
thanks so much!
