San Diego restaurant week

I was fortunate to take full advantage of restaurant week. Here are some highlights. Monday - Pamplemousse Grille. Our server was very short with us. Immediately after being seated she asked for our drink order. We hesitated on making a decision and she asked for our menu selection. We hadn't looked at it yet. That seemed to bother her. All in all the food was okay. Roasted tomato and fennel soup was tasty. The chicken entree was the better than both the pork and salmon. Interested because I typically don't order chicken out. Creme brule was usual while the apple crisp had a burnt flavor to it. Tuesday - Georges. I can't say enough about the service at Georges. Exceptional. The butternut squash soup is some of the best I have ever had. The braised shortribs are one of my favorites as well. The trio of seasonal sorbets was the dessert winner. Wednesday - Le Fontainebleau. What a beautiful room! The service was great as well. I wasn't impressed with the spiny lobster appetizer but heard rave reviews on the baked gariotin cheese. My mom and I shared the grilled cote de bouef. It was cooked to perfection. I had a bit of the sea bass and wasn't impressed. The persimmon bread pudding was very good. Thursday - Mille Fleurs. I had never been but always heard consistent praise. The mussel soup was very flavorful with an interesting vegatable called salicornia. When we asked what that was we were told they are sea beans. They gave an interesting flavor to the soup. By far the best entree was the Lake Superior whitefish. Being originally from Michigan I couldn't pass it up. The fish was seared to perfection. As for dessert the pot de creme was the winner. Again excellent service. All in all it was a culinary experience I would gladly participate in again. Best Service - Georges
Best Atmosphere - Le Fontainbleau
Best Food - Mille Fleurs
