San Diego Report (long)

I spent couple days in San Diego last week and here are some of the places we went.
Day 1. For lunch on Thurday we went to George's at the Cove and ate at the Ocean Terrace. I had their soup and salad lunch. The caesar salad I thought was O.K. the dressing was a little flat for me. I loved the black bean, smoked chicken and broccli soup. My SO ordered a chicken dish with a parmesean dipping sauce. He was happy with his lunch. The view and weather were great. For dinner that night we went to Region on Fifth. We loved this place. For appetizers we ordered the spring salad with a goat cheese frittata and a fava bean bruchetta (sp) with shaved parmesean and spring garlic drizzled with olive oil. These were both excellent and simple--every ingredient stood out. They accidentally ordered us another appetizer that was wonderful. A spinach orcciette (sp)in a light chicken broth with pancetta and a poached egg and mushrooms. Once the egg broke in the broth it created this delicious rich flavor that contrasted beautifully with the texture of the pasta. For the entrees we ordered the short ribs over creamy polenta and pork roast over mushrooms and roasted asparagus. The pork was succulent and the vegetable were cooked perfectly. The short ribs were melt in your mouth delicious. To finish the meal we had the chocolate tart with passion fruit and coconut gelato. I wanted another one when we finished.
Day 2. For breakfast we went to Cafe 222. I had the bacon, cheddar and corn waffle. I loved the combination of all the flavors and the wafflewas perfectly cooked. Because they offer spam as meat choice with your eggs my SO got that because it reminded him of his childhood. For dinner we went to Parallel 33. We started with the bastilla spiced chicken in phyllo dusted with powdered sugar and served with preserved lemon. This was wonderful. All the flavors went so well together. The entrees were a panko and black sesame crusted soft shell crab with shangai noodles and chili coconut sauce. I loved this. At first I thought it would have too much going on in the dish but it was great with all the different textures and flavors. My SO has curry prawns over coconut rice. I liked his but thought my dish was excellent. Overall we were very happy with both days of dining in San Diego.
