I went to a new indian restaurant yesterday on accident, since we had planned to eat dinner at Blue Water...and lo and behold, next door was a new restaurant (in the dental office plaza) called House of India. Group majority ruled, and we ate indian!
Found out it has only been open for 3 weeks, nice ambiance. Their big advertisement was for a $7.95 lunch buffet.
The great news is that they have an actual tandoor in the back, which is always a plus! We started with the keema naan (bread stuffed with minced lamb) and aloo paratha (bread stuffed with potato). The keema naan was a bit raw and had to be sent back, and they were unable to fix it (thought that was strange). The aloo paratha was good, and the chutney made it better.
I had the saag paneer (spinach with paneer cheese) and other had the lamb kebab, and the chicken tikka masala. We ordered everything on the spicy side, with no return on that request.
They have a full bar, and we ordered a couple of beers (Taj Mahal and Marharaja) which were light and tasty.
The saag paneer was good, not greasy or heavy on the cream, with firm paneer cheese. Definitely one of the better versions I've tried. The tikka masala was pretty good, but could have used more spice and flavor, but its hard to screw up this dish.
The lamb kebabs were good, if on the bit chewy side, rather than the tender meat it could be.
All entrees came with basmati rice and we ordered a regular paratha and garlic naan, but another aloo paratha and regular naan came to the table.
There is the potential for this place to improve, with some attention to detail. HOwever, its not the best location in the world; so I think it will take some phenomenal food to keep them around. Having Blue Water next door will likely help them!
