We're coming to San Antonio for a board (read that bored) meeting and want to eat well. Meaning, really good, honest San Antonio food--- TexMex, Mexican, whatever is good, true, beautiful and (mostly) tasty. We'd be open to converting to bbq brisket, which we've never liked (because we haven't tried the real thing). We've done the research, but lots of confusion and consternation out there on these issues. Appreciate the passion, but we need to make some decisions here! Please cut through the hype and yipe for us. Specifically:
Please advise on best Mexican/TexMex spots to try.
We're staying in Mansion del Rio, but we'll get around if we need to. (NB: On a previous brief visit, one of us tried Mi Tierra. Fun place, good but ... Can we do better?)
Should we rent a car on our "free" day (a Sunday) and head for Hill Country to find BBQ, or can you recommend spots in SA that will win us over? (Note: While not brisket or TX afficionados, one of us was raised on good GA 'cue and is serious about smoked meat.)
And, okay, since we'll be there five days. I'd better ask about good alternatives to TexMex just in case our weak eastern systems need to take a break....
Appreciate it, ya'll. Can't wait to see the city.
