San Antonio W/E of the 20th

I’ll be visiting your fair city for the second time over the weekend of the 20th. I’ll be there for 2 nights for a conference, and I’d appreciate some recommendations. I’ve been mining this board since October, so I have about three pages of notes (currently at the ofice, desgraciadamente), but I wanted to get some current intelligence.

In 2001 I attended another conference in San Antonio. On that occasion, I combined 5 vacation days with the Official Business, and had a delightful time eating my way around. I stayed at the Columns B&B on Alamo Dr., and ate at a number of places in the King William area and south of there to the Lone Star Brewery. The Columns left me feeling pampered like royalty, and my husband and I discovered numerous delightful dining spots in our wanderings.

I’m not going to take any vacation days this time (suddenly I’m regretting that), but I have two dinners to enjoy – Friday and Saturday nights. Time for breakfast and lunch will be too limited to stray from the Riverwalk/Convention Center area. I’m assuming that the entire area surrounding the convention center will be slammed as usual. I’m willing to invest in a cab ride for a good meal. It needn’t be fancy, but it could be. It needn’t be Tex, or Mex, or TexMex, but it could be. I’m not inclined to pay for a super-premium meal, but I’m not ruling one out. The only requirement is that it should be good.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
