On a whim, I bought one of these sleek, classy 8.45 oz cobalt glass bottles for my husband's Christmas stocking. The back of the bottle says only that it is ale brewed with maple syrup. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoy bock beer, porter, stout and Christmas ale. We opened it yesterday, and I can only describe the contents of the bottle as bizarre. The bottle was cork finished. There was no carbonation whatsoever. It was the color and consistency of soy sauce. The taste was something like cream sherry mixed with blackstrap molasses, sticky sweet, intense and slightly bitter. We kept tasting it, hoping that it would reveal some wonderfulness worthy of its special presentation and packaging, but ended up pouring it down the sink. Did we miss something, or perhaps get a bad bottle? Anybody have information about or experience with this stuff?
