I just did. This morning.
I suppose it's not a novel idea, but this morning when I was trying to make toast and realized my toaster had clunked out on me, I pulled out my frying pan and then -- kapow! -- inspiration hit me like a bat to the family gonads.
I realized that when my mom made toasted mántou (or 饅頭) she would slice the mántou, then toast, then sprinkle on some salt right before plating, and it made the toasted buns so much more -- how do you say? --- umami-licious, perhaps?
And that's what I did this morning.
Dry toast. With salt.
Good eating (and the gonads have recovered nicely).
