Salt Water vs. Seldom Blues for Celebration Dinner (Detroit)

Hi All,

I'm a DC Hound but my bf lives in Detroit. His 30th birthday is coming up and we are planning on having a party either at Seldom Blues or Salt Water. There will probably be around 8-12 people in attendence, all adults but ranges of ages (it's his family who we are having dinner with). We are looking for a fun place with delicious food.

We ate at Seldom Blues this past December and really loved it. We thought this would be a nice spot because they have those private rooms with the view and of course we can then go hang out by the bar after dinner and enjoy the music.

Our other thought was Salt Water at the MGM Casino. Neither of us have eaten here before but hear wonderful things about Michael Mina's restaurants in SF. My bf has looked at the restaurant before and said the decor is quite impressive. But we also know that it is quite expensive--possibly $100/person or so. Is the price tag worth it? Is this some place you would go for a birthday celebration? What is the ambiance/clientelle like?

Thanks so much for your help. And just in case you are wondering, we are looking to have this dinner the first weekend in May.
