While most of my recent Mexican meals seem to be Alta cocina, I still love the mom-and-pops, especially when they’re as good as Salsas in Cathedral City. Packed on Sunday night with a crowd outside waiting for tables. Drive carefully around the potholes in the parking lot, that part will remind you of Mexico too. The southern Mexican seafood preps are worth the trouble.
This is the daily special, Basa fillet and shrimp in chile de arbol sauce with rice and sautéed calabacitas (summer squash), $18.95. The menu offers sautéed veggies as a sub for rice and beans on request at no extra charge. Delicious bathed in the super garlicky spicy saucing and cooked a point. Good salsa casera with complimentary chips too.
Good reason for this place to be packed with a line-up outside. Thanks for the rec, "larochelle"! I've passed this along to my San Diego friends who weekend in Palm Springs and its their regular place now too.
