After a meeting yesterday, we ducked into Salinas Brick House Cafe to plot next steps and grab a bite. The restaurant opened last summer and this was a first visit for either of us.
My friend had the soup of the day. A big bowl of Tortilla Soup accompanied with sour cream on the side and a lemon wedge was only $3.99. She pronounced it delicious and this spot a find.
For me, Grilled calamari sandwich on ciabatta, $10.99. The ciabatta was more dense than this airy bread should be. But it was toasted and spread with garlic oil and tartar sauce that made the calamari steak sing. This may be the best calamari steak I've had in ages. Side salad was spritely and not just an afterthought.
The tenants here of recent years have not been worth talking about. Fortunately, Salinas Brick House Cafe is breaking that cycle of mediocrity. The outdoor patio offers lots of seating and there's a full bar too. Service was a bit uneven. But the reason to return is the food. It's good and good value too.
