Ok, here's my problem. I've been fantasizing for several months now about having my rehearsal dinner at the Barking Crab. My fiancee and I are planning a rather formal Christmas-time wedding at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem and we'd like to even it out with the more laid-back New England experience versus the formal New England experience (to those who haven't experienced the Barking Crab in winter, you're missing out, everyone kind of gathers around the big wood burning oven, and, if you ask nicely, they sometimes let you throw more wood in, what could be better?). Sadly, the Barking Crab is rather far from Salem and it really doesn't make sense to have a rehearsal in Salem and then go back to Boston for dinner, only for most of the guests to return back to Salem.
So my question is this, are there any places sort of Barking-Crab-esque in the Salem area that could accomodate around 30-35 people with similar atomosphere and similar price? I'm hoping for just a big, fun, relaxed place where ideally you could forego the passed appetizers and just order a couple of buckets of steamers, a couple pitchers of beer, and have a nice, relaxed night.
