In a quiet corner of the maze of shops and restaurants in Illinois Center is a nice little place for lunch that serves salads and wraps. It's called "Salad Garden Express." Is anyone familiar with it? I tried it for the first time today and I really enjoyed it. I had one of the specials - sauteed calamari with carrots, onions, green and red peppers and fresh tomatoes served on a bed of romaine, tossed in a tomato basil vinaigrette. This salad was ENORMOUS, fresh and tasty and only about $6.00. They also offer a nice selection of wraps like Lemon Chicken and Chicken Teryaki. Other salads include Salmon, Chicken and Tuna. The restaurant itself was quiet and about 1/3 filled at noon.
Would anyone know if this place is operated by the same people who run the Pita and Steak Express in the State of Illinois building? There are sililarities: the name, the abundance of vegetables in the dishes, the quiet, low traffic location in a busy mall. . .
If you'd like to check it out, it's right by a door that reads: "Swiss Hotel Three Illinois Center", near the Urban Kitchen.
