Saito's Sushi: Downhill?

The wife and I ate at Saito's Sushi in Silverlake on Friday, and found it, well, just OK. We've been semi-regulars for the last several years, and have loved it for the high-quality fish, unpretentious atmosphere, and of course Saito himself.

On Friday we had the Albacore salad, butterfish/cod, hamachi, salmon, unagi, spicy tuna roll, and Spanish mackerel. While none of it was bad, none of it was great either. Saito's presentation seems to have slipped a bit, and the overall quality of the fish has dropped a notch.

I'd regard it as a fluke, but the wife was there for lunch a couple of weeks ago and had the same experience.

Has anyone else noticed Saito slippage? And what ever happened to the crazy waiter with the glasses and graying hair?
