A year ago I convinced my carpool companions that we should stop at the Arcata Plaza Farmers Market on Saturday morning on our way back to the Bay Area. I admired the plump and fragrant berries at Saechao Strawberries stand, but they sold out before I circled back from my browsing round. All was not lost however, as I purchased a half-pint jar of the strawberry jam, $5. Made with just strawberries, sugar and pectin, these captured the bright taste of summer. Barely thickened, the spoonable confiture made for a nice topping on ice cream, revved up the morning toast, and often I could not resist just popping a spoonful of this goodness in my mouth. Wish I had more.
