Saddle Peak Lodge - WOW!!

Late yesterday afternoon while deciding where to go to dinner, it dawned on me I hadn’t had lamb in a while and wanted some really good lamb chops. In my memory the best restaurant lamb chops I ever had were at Ruth’s Chris Steak House. It was 4:00pm and we thought maybe we could get in early. Hah! Nothing open before 9:15pm.

My next choice was Saddle Peak Lodge, but I figured no way could we get in there since we always had to book weeks in advance. My wife said to try anyway and, to my surprise, we got in a 5:45 reservation!!

We arrived a few minutes early, the hostess took my wine and seated us on the downstairs patio immediately. The waiter arrived very soon and took our drink orders. He was most pleasant and accommodating.

While we were having our martini’s, a server brought over two small complimentary cauliflower soups (about espresso size). Delicious!

For appetizers I had the seared scallops and my wife the apple salad with blue cheese and pecans. Both were absolutely excellent and the portions were definitely not skimpy.

Unfortunately, lamb was not on the menu this evening. So, since I brought a well-aged Bordeaux, I ordered the Cote du boeuf, which was basically a rib eye steak, charred rare. My wife had the Polenta.

The food arrived and let me tell you, big portions (neither of us finished our meals) and absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly, nice charring and definitely rare. The mashed potatoes and wine reduction sauce were superb.

While we were both really stuffed, we couldn’t resist ordering desert, especially having noticed so many go by all evening! I had the Vanilla bean Fudge Sunday, my wife the bread pudding. Again, large portions, my Sunday had 3 scoops of ice cream and both hazelnuts and pecans witLate yesterday afternoon while deciding where to go to dinner, it dawned on me I hadn’t had lamb in a while and wanted some really good lamb chops. Again, large portions, my Sunday had 3 scoops of ice cream and both hazelnuts and pecans with a delicate fudge on the bottom, a nice touch. My wife could finish hers, ate about half, but I licked up every drop of mine.

We’re still full this morning but what a great meal. The service was excellent all night, the corkage a fair $15, the total (before tip) $162. We were so pleased I left a nice tip ($200) total, something I do only when everything is perfect.

All in all a most enjoyable evening and meal. Definitely the best dinner out so far this year. I didn’t even miss the Lamb!

Guess what we’re having for lunch?
