Tonite, after yet another perfect dinner, the main waitress (and asst. chef) at Sumiya told my boyfriend and I that Sunday, Sept. 7 would be their last day! They've sold the joint! As I gushed "ohhhh noooo," my poor boyfriend, looking like he had been punched in the gut, gave a loud "NO!" I mean, he looked like somebody just ran over his dog. She told us that the new owner is also Japanese, and the food might be similar. She said she wanted to thank us for being such good customers (we've been in that place an average of once a week for a couple of years now,) but we are the ones who want to thank *them* for feeding us so well.
So, we want to get them a little thank you gift, but have no idea what to give them. Any ideas? I mean, a little plant? A nice bottle of wine/champagne? We don't have a lot of money to spend, but at the same time, would probably spend up to 50$ - this is our favorite place and we really like the folks there. What do y'all think?
