I recently returned to Lazzara's (38th betw. 7th/8th) after being away for a few years and was amazed and saddened at how it had declined. The first time I went back I ordered a half-pepperoni pie (they are all squares with thin crust and slivered toppings-well, the pepperoni is, anyway). I couldn't believe it-it wasn't fresh at all, it was obviously re-heated. A few days later I ordered a full size pepperoni pie-it was fresh but it was extremely salty and definitely not wonderful (which it consistently was when I started going in 1998 or so). Sad...very sad. The brothers who run it are really cool but its success has turned it into a factory, unfortunately, and the quality has definitely suffered IMO.
