(Sacto Area) Jeff's BBQ in Orangevale

Bryan Harrell | Feb 1, 200504:25 PM

After going by this place for almost six months, I happened to pass by at lunchtime. I had the beef brisket lunch, with two sides; I chose the ranch beans and the cole slaw.
The brisket was perfect, perhaps just a bit fattier than normal, but with wonderful pull-apart-with-your-fork texture, not too soft. The spicing was so elegant (can I use that word with 'cue?) I didn't need any of the sauce brought to the table, which turned out to be thoroughly lip-smacking besides.

Beans were an excellent version of what canned Ranch Style Beans try to do, while the cole slaw was just a tiny bit too sweet for my taste. but was still topped with big flecks of black pepper.

Also, a good chewy dinner roll came with. (I'd rather have a square of cornbread, but...)

$7.95 for the whole thing. I sat outside a few feet away from the barbecue trailer that belches out the sweetest smelling wood smoke.

Jeff's BBQ is holding out in a haunted strip mall full of vacancies at the northeast corner of Greenback and Hazel in Orangevale.

While I've only visited once, I'll likely go back again in a day or two. This seems the real deal.
