What to do in Sacramento?

Question

I am going to Sacramento to visit my sister Easter weekend and she knows where to eat, but it doesn't sound like she knows where we should go for fun (she's lived there just a month and a half now).
 
We're both single, in our late 20's and need things to do primarily between lunch and dinner. What's fun in Sacramento?
 
Recommendations for food are of course still welcome!

I've probably lived In Sacramento more years than you've been on the earth, so chances are that we don't like to do the same sorts of things. However, if you'd given some indication of what you think is fun, I might be better able to help you. Let me give you a few of the things which come to mind from beyond the half century mark. If none of them appeal to you, well, pooh on you!
 
Something outdoors? How's about the 26 miles of the American River Parkway Bike Trail (Jedediah Smith Bike Trail) along the American River, like a wilderness in the middle of the city. In line skating is allowed there also, so watch where you're going. Portions of it are open to horses, check the Yellow Pages if you want to rent one of the critters.
 
Something to eat? There's a Farmers' Market open in the City every day of the week. Call the Certified Farmers Market number from the phone book and find out where today's offering is located.
 
Some place to wander? Old Sacramento, along the River, downtown. Historically renovated building exteriors housing all kinds of shops and eateries. Even a large paddle wheel boat of the kind which used to connect us with San Francisco.
 
While in Old Sac, visit the State Railroad Museum. Definitely a 'don't miss' kind of place. Spiffed up engines and railroad cars along with an interpretive history of the railroad and the West. Stroll south along the promenade to feel the power of the river.
 
Tour the restored State Capitol building. Awesome. Find the Jerry Brown medfly in the ceiling of the Senate chamber. Take one of the tours to really learn California history.
 
Drive through the downtown and midtown neighborhoods and appreciate the many rehabbed Victorian homes and the neighborhood restaurants tucked in here and there where you least expect.
 
Blow your mind and see an IMAX production in the theater at 13th and K Streets.
 
See the ballet in rehearsel at 17th and K Streets.
 
Contact the Sacramento Convention and Visitors' Bureau before you come and they'll send you a listing of what's going on where.

In the afternoon I'd check out the Crocker Museum of Art, on 'O' Street. It is unique in that it features California art, and the building is gorgeous. It is a treat to see paintings done of now metropolitan areas when they were wild. Yes, there is contemporary art too.
 
From there you can cruise to Old town, and have 'olde tyme' photos of yourself made -dressed as gunslingers. (so much more fun than the prostitute costumes) Hokey I know, but then you're from out of town, and no one will recognize you going in.

So far, you've been told about two of the best things in Sacramento - the Crocker Art Museum and the little town of Locke (just because it's outside of town, we still refer to it as a Sacramento thing). Another nice visit is the Train Museum in Old Sacramento - now that the State Parks have reduced the fee, it's ridiculously cheap to visit here - bits of history and great "touchable" exhibits. You don't have to be a train buff to enjoy this museum, trains are an essential part of California History and you'll get plenty of history here. 
Another visit would be to the State Capitol Building - not sure what the new security measures will do to accessibility, but it's a beautiful building to visit.
