Sabor Restaurant in Schaumburg (long)

My husband and I celebrated our 1st anniversary last week at Sabor in Schaumburg (near the intersection of Schaumburg and Roselle Rds) and had one of the best dining experiences in recent memory! The owner and chef is a young woman from Schaumburg and she should be incredibly proud of what she and her staff have achieved.

At the recommendation of our absolutely charming waiter, Josh, we started w/a Latin beer and a Bunuel, a very yummy raspberry cocktail that I easily could have had many more of. Josh continued to provide great explanations and suggestions throughout the meal. We moved on to the house salad, a mix of baby greens, oranges, grape tomatoes, avocado and crostini with a nicely matched & light passionfruit vinaigrette. Warm bread was served w/the salad and is a choice of a brioche type roll or a herby bun (sage & rosemary, I think) -- excellent. For entrees, the carnivore had filet mignon on a bed of mashed potatoes infused w/bleu cheese and a port wine reduction sauce that he really enjoyed. The vegetarian had a dish that was a trio of mushrooms - - a very creamy mushroom risotto, a grilled portabello and a polenta cake - all delish!

For dessert, they surprised us w/sparkling wine and a wonderful dessert - warm chocolate cake w/a vanilla sauce, raspberry puree and a small scoop of coconut ice cream.

To top it off, the weather cooperated and we were able to eat in the outdoor patio which is very peaceful and made us forget the nearby parking lot and busy street. All in all, it was a perfect celebration. They treated us like our special day was their special day and we couldn't have been happier w/our choice.

Schaumburg doesn't have many places like this so
if you have a chance to try it, go! We can't wait to go back!!
