Sabich in Seattle?

broksonic | Mar 9, 2008 07:27 AM

I just spent a wonderful week in Israel, and came to love an Iraqi dish called Sabich (see for more), which is often called falafel's little cousin. This one is eggplant and egg in pita, among other salads and spices.

I'd love to find a place to have it here, but don't remember having seen it at any of my normal falafel joints. Anyone ever seen this around town?

Alternatively, I found a recipe to approximate it at, which I will of course try, but, first, there are 2 key ingredients I would need to source, so if anyone has any ideas, it would be very appreciated:

1) Amba, a sort of sour mango pickle sauce
2) Multi-cleft heirloom eggplant variety known in the Middle East as “baladi”
