I know, I bust on Restaurant Week all the time, but found myself here anyway out of necessity, and like Caffe Umbra, I'm happy to report that the kitchen, at least, was holding up its end of the bargain: a very nice couple of appetizers (especially a tomato soup with chewy bread dumplings) and entrees (notably the tilapia), very fine desserts (the bread pudding was our favorite): real bargains vs. the usual prices here, without a noticeable step down in quality.
Service was another story: clearly harried and unhappy -- not at all the usual extraordinarily professional and attentive service that is the standard here. (Not that I much blame our server, whom I had not seen before at Union, but it's worth noting.) Bartending and bar service was up to its usual very high level.
So I now have at least two places I can recommend as good values for RW, if you are willing to put up with below-par service for your bargain-priced meal.
