RW - Firefly report

Although this site (in the Madera Hotel, 1310 New Hampshire Ave. near N St.) has been through several incarnations over the last few years, IMHO this is by far the best, and the most fun!

Our RW menu last night was quite helpful - at the top of the menu was an explanation that ALL menu items were included in RW, and then they listed a couple of apps and one entree and one dessert that had a nominal $3.00 surcharge. That's the way to go!

We started with the onion and chorizo tart and the half-order of mussels. Both were fantastic (especially the strong mustard sauce bed for the tart). The mussels came with a paper cone of piping hot fries, and the staff wisked out a mound of fresh lemonny mayonnaise on request.

Entrees - roasted pork chop with cabbage, and grilled salmon filet with spinach substituted for potato puree. Both perfectly prepared and brought tableside at just the right time.

Dessert choice was the poached pear for both. With the heavy meal, it was a great choice, and sat in a beautiful fluted bowl with custard and cranberries floating around. It came with a gratis flight of dessert wine when the staff realized that our order had been delayed by the busy kitchen. Management delivered the wine personally with an apology, and endeared themselves as a result.

Don't know if it's RW, great service, (including much-appreciated valet parking) pretty decor or the location, but the place was packed well into the evening. Well-deserved.
