Well, I must admit, after all these years, I've never been to a Ruth Chris before last week. So, it was with great anticipation and joy (My buddy's treat) that we went.
It was a Friday and all the tables were sold out. But, because our host had a black AMEX card (I'll bet many of you have never heard of a black AMEX card...I know we'd never heard of one) the management literally had to find a table for us. The perks attached to that card are pretty amazing.
Anyway, the place was very nicely decorated for any of the few of you, besides me, who'd never been there. The service was top shelf...I mean these people were on top of us from the moment we entered their restaurant. Pretty impressive.
There were four of us. My friend ordered the rib eye "burnt"...Yeah, I kid you not. His wife had the small filet, my wife had the chicken and I got a NY Strip. The bill came to $250.
My wife does not eat red meat and so she ordered the full chicken breast, which was actually really terrific. Placed in those 1200 degree (perhaps they are 1800? Can't remember anymore) upright broilers that they use on their steaks, the chicken reminded her of the best one she'd ever had in Italy...There they placed the chicken on a heavy brick...Anyway, both places yielded this amazing crispy skin while the chicken was succulent.
The NY Strip I had was good....Not great. I loved the butter treatment though which really made a big difference IMHO. I normally prefer a char-broiled cooked steak. It was cooked exactly as I ordered.
We had several sides and they were all good. We also shared two desserts, which were very good. Each was enough for two persons and very, very well made.
They do a very good job. The place was packed, but by 9:00 PM, you could get a table, if you so desired.
