I have been a regular at Russo's for many years and thought they were a godsend for excellent produce at a good price before they expanded. I have noticed a couple of troubling trends. The prices on produce have crept up. Many itemes (lettuces, carrots, lemons) are still good value but fruit particularly has increased perhaps by 25-50% or so. More troubling is that the quality has diminished IMO. Plums, peaches and nectarines were awful this summer tasting like they were frozen during transport. In contrast, Stop and Shop had very good stone fruits this summer at a better price. While I am happy with the added features of the new place, the diminished quality in their core business has me concerned. Any opinions?
