Russian wedding caterer - help a friend get her dream wedding

Olivia | Apr 10, 2006 02:26 PM

I know this is a long shot, but I could really use this group's help. A close friends is getting married next spring (2007). Her Russian emigre parents had only one request: that they serve a real Russian meal. If they do that, the rest of the wedding decisions will be up to them.

My friends have found their dream spot for the reception:

However, it seems there is no way to get the kind of meal her parents require catered (there or anywhere) for anything close to their budget of $100-110/person for 250 people. (They wanted a 50 person wedding - guess the family forced two concessions.) It sounds like catering is double the price of the same meal at a Russian restaurant. That leaves them with this spot:

Not so awful, and apparently the food is good, but it's a far cry from their dream spot.

She can't just fight her mother on this because her mom is ailing and supposed to be stress-free. So, the only way to help my friend get her dream wedding and keep her parents happy is to find a caterer who can serve a great Russian meal at the Metropolitan at something close to their budget. I have no idea what caterers usually run in NYC, but does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to make this happen?

Any leads or ideas appreciated!
