Russian and Ukrainian food - Yummy Mart

Poorboy | Jan 11, 201110:42 PM

About 2 years ago I had some jarred tomatoes with some kind of Russian printing on the jar. These were semi-hot and preserved. Loved them. I later found out they were from a place called Yummy Mart of Dufferin St, just below Finch.
Being a dedicated person to trying "new" things, I ventured to the Yummy Mart today and was gobsmacked. There was a "Deli Counter" with many types of prepared foods that you could take-out. There was a huge prepared meat and cheese counter as well. Smoked fish in a bucket in front of the counter was enticing and I went for a nice smoked mackerel that found it's way to my plate.
I picked up some frozen pirogies, garlic pastrami, pickled mushrooms, jarred tomatoes, and some sausage along with some nice bread. The pricing was more than reasonable. So for now, I am in to trying out more Eastern European foods for a change. Are there any suggested Russian or Ukrainian restaurants that my fellow foodies would suggest?
