Runzas and knishes- a missing link?

I'm discovering all these new (to me) foods in (eh hem, hangs head in shame) the weight watchers points guide. I came across runza and wondered what the hell that was. I looked it up online to find it is even a chain of trademarked Runza restaurants in the midwest. But their description- ground beef with spices, cabbage and onions inside a bread pastry- sounds a lot like a Russian knish- the kind you get in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn at the Russian stores. Not the kind you get in a Jewish bakery or even a hot dog cart. The websites describe it as having Russian origins. Does anyone know anything more about these two meat pies? Without access to tasting a Runza- is it a treat? Is it like the Russian meat knish (as opposed to the cherry, mushroom, spinach, etc.)? What are the spices. I will link a site and recipe below. The website itself it quite silly in and of itself. Check out the caption under the photo of a runza.
