I've been driving by and spying on the progress ever since I first saw that Ravagh Persian Grill was coming to Huntington... today I drove by and saw they were finally open, so tonight we headed right over. We'd been to the Roslyn restaurant in the past, not for a while, but had fond memories.
The restaurant is in the space that last hosted Blond, and before that, Noma, I think. It's pretty, and the staff is clearly well experienced, trained and they're very welcoming.
There was one disappointment; I was looking forward to their very proper tabouli, all dark green with parsley instead of the usual insipid beige with too much bulgar, but it doesn't move enough, so they're not planning to make it, even though it's on the menu.
For starters, we had a grilled sliced eggplant dish with beautiful seasoning and tomatoes on top, and a somewhat bland lentil soup, still pining for the tabouli. Sumac from a table top shaker brightened it up.
Dinners were really superb, both kebab dishes. Husband had the Ravagh Special kebab, with beef sirloin and chicken and loved it. As is typical, it came with rice and also grilled onion and tomato on the side. Seasonings here are bright, balanced and the best I've had in memory. My dish was a kebab of cornish hen, bone in pieces, also extremely well seasoned and juicy.
Wine and beer were moderately priced, selections ok.
I hope enough folks check out Ravagh so that they last a long time here, but not so many that I have trouble getting in. They were doing good business tonight, for very good reason.
If you like middle eastern food, you can't do better than this anywhere I've been to, though Tanoreen in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn can compete.
